With bus routes travelling the Wörgl-St Johann road, with a feeder route from Kufstein, the valley of the Weissache has reasonable access by public transport (Wörgl, Kufstein and St Johann are all on rail routes). It’s a beautiful, broad valley flanked in the north by the abrupt limestone wall of the Wilder Kaiser, and in the south by the modest heights of the Kitzbüheler Alps. Below the hills Söll, Scheffau, Ellmau and Going are all attractive little resorts standing back from the main road. Söll has a gondola lift rising to Hochsöll, Scheffau a cable-car up to the Brandstadl, and Ellmau a funicular railway climbing to the Hartkaiser, all of which give good walking with views across the valley to the Wilder Kaiser – a range which has no mechanical uplift.
Note For walks on the north side of the Weissache, please refer to the Kaisergebirge section.

An easy valley walk which links two attractive villages, visits a small lake, and clearly shows the marked difference between mountains that wall either side of the valley; the abrupt limestone peaks of the Wilder Kaiser on the north, the green wooded hills of the Kitzbüheler Alps to the south.
Begin in the pedestrian heart of Söll and, with the church behind you and Hotel Postwirt to your left, walk down a narrow street where a sign directs the way to the Moorsee. Branch right when the road forks and 20mins from the church you will come to the little lake of Moorsee in a shallow basin of grass and trees.
As the road descends to the lake take a footpath on the right, signed to Scheffau. This goes along the east shore and, at the far end, veers right to the edge of woods where there’s a junction. Bear left, and ignoring an alternative path heading into the woods, continue ahead on the forest edge before sloping downhill into the trees. About 10mins from the Moorsee cross open meadows to the Kufstein road.
Cross with care and walk ahead on a track which passes farm buildings, then takes you through flat valley meadows. Just after passing a small barn, cross a footbridge over a stream and continue on a narrow tarmac lane.
With the main road off to the right, the Wilder Kaiser mountains flanking the valley on the left, and the block of the Loferer Steinberge ahead to the east, a very pleasant and uncomplicated walk takes you to Gasthof Blaiken (refreshments), smothered with flowers and standing by a stream, about 1½hrs from Söll. Immediately beyond the gasthof turn left, and when the road forks by a farm, take the right branch through more open meadows, to reach Scheffau by the church. There’s a bus stop here for the ride back to Söll.
