Standing on a little terrace below the Grosses Wiesbachhorn with spectacular views, the Heinrich-Schwaiger-Haus is understandably popular with day visitors, despite the steepness of the approach. It was built in 1902 by the Munich section of the DAV, and makes an obvious goal for a walk.
Cross the Mooserboden dam, which is in two sections, and at the eastern end of the second of these, the Drossen dam, branch left. Moments later fork right at a path junction. (The left branch here is the Max-Hirschel-Weg, no 723, which makes a long and sometimes exposed route to the Gleiwitzer Hut.) The Schwaiger Haus route is clearly marked and is no 718. Very shortly it twists left and makes a rising traverse heading northeast, before swinging right to climb in switchbacks to the southeast. There are no alternatives, and it brings you directly to the Heinrich-Schwaiger-Haus in a little under 2½hrs.
