The Larsen C Ice Shelf on Its Last Legs

Noah Dversdall

All last night I was up thinking what sound

a trillion pounds of ice would make when it fell in the water,

(ice crack | no ice smack | no ice clack

no ice clap | no ice slap | no ice snap | no ice noise

               I wouldn't hear it

but no, cold whispers | chill wave

                           lap along the coast

                           no

                           quiet breeze and a sail

                           soft-taut in it no

light | no light | no light

landing | no light shudder | no shudder

no ice quake | no ice shake | no

                                 I shiver thinking)

               but no, I don't understand

               but no, understand me,

understand me, it's too dark to see

but I want to hear the ocean rise.
