CHAPTER TWO

Later, Barry had to have some tests done by Dr Evans, but, after that, he was allowed to go home. He put on his tuxedo, and he and his mum and dad and his sisters went down in the lift and out into the hospital car park. Parked there was the family’s Ford Fiesta. His parents helped him put all his clothes and all the extra presents he’d got in the back.

Then his dad said: “OK, Susan, you take the girls home.”

His mum nodded and got in the car. Ginny and Kay got in the back. They waved at him and shut the doors.

“Where are we going, Dad?” said Barry.

“We’re going home too. We’ll follow them.”

“Right,” said Barry, confused. The house was a long way away. “In what?”

His dad smiled at him.

“You know there was something else you wanted? You remember you said they weren’t that expensive to hire…”

Barry nodded. He felt himself becoming really excited.

“Well, they are. Very expensive. So we couldn’t hire one.”

“Oh,” said Barry and let the excitement drain out of him. His mum started up the Ford Fiesta.

“But it turns out that Jake’s dad is a member of something called the Classic Car Club. And he let us borrow his membership for today. So…”

The Ford Fiesta moved out of its space. Revealing, behind it, a gleaming silver Aston Martin DB6.

Barry didn’t know what to say. He just stared and stared at the beautiful car.

Suddenly, his dad was holding open the passenger door.

“Well, come on, 007, I haven’t got all day,” he said, in a voice EXACTLY like Q’s.
