⁴ Having lost with Rockefeller in 1964, Moore went back to his native Massachusetts and campaigned at the grass roots of Cape Cod, insisting that citizens must take an interest in politics. In the spring of 1965, having left Presidential politics behind, he was elected selectman of the town of Orleans in the largest vote of the town’s election history, by a margin of 1039 to 432.
