Under Paul’s request, Bishop was subdued with thorazine, a medication that would normally put anyone else to sleep; however, the dosage did nothing more than suppress Bishop.
He described the time as being locked inside a prison of the mind where his emotions and actions were controlled by a chemical warden. But he forced himself to think freely. Even as the drool dripped from his lips, even as he strained to move the smallest muscle, Bishop found a place of solitude tucked back deep in the subconscious. He was free, for that solitude was a place not even the strongest chemical could penetrate. It was the place where the light of the angel remained and comforted him. Bishop was at ease with the events he understood would follow, for he never doubted that he’d be free to share his gift with the world.
