A week in, and Lady started picking up guests quicker than most. She was good. Popular, sure, but she didn’t upsell, which was where the real money was. You could make your millions at the Hop, but you really had to make double that, since half of every deal went to the house. I was still the best-selling Bunny. I had regulars who spent whole weeks with me and barely spared a look at anyone else. I was good at what I did, and I knew how to keep guests loyal, but Lady had that thing. The thing that made men look, and once they looked, they couldn’t look away. She didn’t seem to know about it. Or she acted like she didn’t. Lady didn’t seem to know who she was, and when everything went down, I think the only person surprised by it was Lady herself.
