It has been said that if you see the time 11:11 on a clock, it means angels or spirits are present, something I firmly believe. It means they are watching over you, guiding you, encouraging you to pay attention to your intuition. I once told this to a friend, who had never heard of such a thing. Since then, he says, a few times a week on average he happens to glance at the clock to find that it is 11:11, and it brings him a tremendous amount of comfort.
Think about that for a moment. The time 11:11 occurs just twice a day, and for just sixty seconds on each occasion. My friend is normally in bed before 10:30 PM, so for him it usually happens only once daily. If he is awake for about sixteen to seventeen hours a day (roughly a thousand minutes), his chances of seeing 11:11 when he glances at the clock on any given day are about one in a thousand. And to recognize it a few times a week seems implausible — unless, maybe, there is some divine intervention in play.
What many people don’t understand is that this sign from the spirit world didn’t start being sent to my friend after I told him about it. I can assure you he saw 11:11 many times before he knew its spiritual meaning. So, what is the difference between then and now?
Awareness.
Everything I have discussed and every story you have read in this book comes down to awareness. Each of us has an antenna that can pick up energy and information from the spirit world all day and every day. The issue is whether we tune out the distractions of this world, and tune in to and recognize that information and energy the antenna is attracting. We all have the capability to tune in at a deeper level, but we need to have that awareness to do it. It’s like a radio. Each one has an antenna to pick up signals, but the power button needs to be turned on for it to work.
Before I conduct a reading with someone, I shift my awareness from the outside world to my inner self, usually through meditation. It’s like a shift in my present reality. When I am able to focus on my antenna and tune out the chaos around me, I become more aware of that which is spiritual and less aware of the worldly side of life.
The ability to do this is there for everyone, but it takes practice and patience. Some people are so eager to feel the spirits that, if it doesn’t work in ten minutes, they get frustrated and quit trying. It takes time. It’s a process. For some, yes, it can take just minutes. For others, it can take days, weeks, months. . . .
Once those in the spirit world know that you have opened your heart and mind to them, they will do everything they can to reach out to you and make their presence known. I have found that most spirits will try to be as obvious and make their signs as evident to you as they possibly can. But you must stay open to whatever they present to you. Many people fail to recognize signs because they aren’t seeing what they want or expect to see.
As I have repeatedly emphasized, you have to be alert to all possibilities. If your deceased father was an airline pilot and you are focused on looking for signs that relate to aviation, you may miss your dad’s doppelgänger who just walked past you in the store, or you may not recognize an object right in front of you that was significant to both of you when he was alive. There is no limit on the possibilities for what the signs might be.
Why do spirits send us signs? To try to guide us in our daily lives. To help us choose the right paths. To bring us closer to one another. The greatest overall message I have received from the spirit world over the years is that we are here to experience love with each other. The spirits want us to stay connected through love. This life goes by in the blink of an eye — nobody knows that better than they do. They can see the truth of that much more from their perspective now than they could when they were here, because they no longer have the earthly distractions that they once had and that we still have. Be open to them; they know exactly what they are doing.
If you are still skeptical or not sure you can make this work, I encourage you to try it. Shift your thinking. Believe that spirits are around you. Believe that they are trying to communicate with you. Believe that they are as alive today as they were before they went to the other side, just in a different form.
French philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin is credited with saying, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” His quote has always resonated with me. Life is a beautiful journey, and although it is temporary, it does not end; death is merely a transition. If you keep that mind-set, you will not be able to deny the presence of spirits in your life today. The signs — the proof — are everywhere, but you must remain open to seeing them. Only then will you receive the message that our inner light can never be extinguished.
