About the Author

Harriet A. Washington, the Shearing Fellow at the University of Nevada’s Black Mountain Institute, has been a research fellow in medical ethics at Harvard Medical School and a senior research scholar at the National Center for Bioethics at Tuskegee University, as well as a visiting scholar at DePaul University College of Law. She has held a visiting fellowship at the Harvard School of Public Health and a John S. Knight Fellowship at Stanford University. She wrote Deadly Monopolies and Medical Apartheid, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award, the PEN Oakland Award, the Gustavus Myers Award, and the American Library Association Black Caucus Nonfiction Award.
