Although contentment was a rarity in her childhood home, happy memories of being in the kitchen with her mother have been reassuring to Tanya when life hasn’t been so kind.
After a traumatic attack in which Tanya barely escaped with her life, she became more determined than ever to seek restoration for her life. She found this Jamaican recipe (see here) among many others to be therapeutic during her recovery. She courageously began to volunteer with charities who were helping other women from domestic violence backgrounds and began exploring business opportunities that would give her independence.
With Tanya’s ambition to start her own business growing, she was introduced to Luminary. Over the period of the course and observing the resilience of the other women she met, she was inspired! Tanya was able to draw out the talent and skills that were already rising within herself.
Today, cooking and baking has become a means for Tanya to inspire hope in those who have undergone similar life-changing experiences to her own. Whether it’s sharing freshly baked goods or learning how to create them, food has a significant way of bringing people together. Tanya’s tip, whether you’re new to baking or a true veteran, is:
‘Always cook with love.’
‘Even before I arrived, I got a sense that Luminary believed in me. They want you to do well! Their way of working inspires you to do well. They give you hope. They really empower women to be their best selves.’
