Best Practices can mean many things. I have a set of Best Practices for my own business—I try to provide exemplary customer service and anyone who works for me must do the same. I also try to give a client MORE than what he or she is expecting. For example, when I notarize an agreement, I explain why I am asking them to sign in blue ink (so that it will always be original despite faxing and photocopying). I also ask them to initial the bottom right-hand corner of the document. I explain that if anyone were to try to substitute a page, this would make it more difficult, if not impossible. My state does not require a seal but we use the seal so the document looks more official. If we make a mistake, we pay for it – my goal is that everyone leaves our office and is satisfied and refers us to their friends and family. That is my personal best practices.

But as a notary, we follow the best practices set for notaries in the United States. Below is a link you will want to study and sometimes refer to when you have a question. You will find answers to many questions as to what is expected of you.
