After the thorough revision of the previous edition it has not been thought necessary to make many additions, but some plates in colour have been included, for the blocks of which we have to thank Herr Jacobs of the well-known firm of Julius Hoffmann, Stuttgart. In addition a number of line and half-tone illustrations have heen added, and the whole work thoroughly overhauled and rearranged. The correction of a number of minor errors and misprints has also been carried out, and in this connection the co-operation of Mr. Percy L. Marks is gratefully appreciated.
To the Board of Education thanks are due for the photograph of a Louis XIV. cabinet, and to the British Museum for permission to reproduce Figs. 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8, Plate I, from their “ Handbook to the Ethnographical Collections.”
