Many of the struggles Regulus and Adelaide face in this book—low self-worth, guilt, shame, depression, fear, self-doubt, assault, abuse, loss—are topics that are near and dear to my heart, all because I or people I know have experienced them.

Regulus and Adelaide spend a lot of this book learning to trust and draw strength from each other. While a relationship cannot magically heal anyone—and indeed, both Regulus and Adelaide are still healing and learning—I do believe in the importance of love and relationships of all kinds (familial, platonic, and romantic). I personally am so grateful to the people in my life who have supported me. And I am constantly striving to be a better friend to those close to me. I also find comfort in my Lord and Savior, even in the midst of brokenness.

I strive to write healthy relationships between people who make mistakes, are unsure of themselves, and sometimes do the wrong thing, but keep trying, keep listening and supporting and loving each other. My hope and prayer is that Regulus, Adelaide, Dresden, Alfred, Tamina, and the others encourage you to turn to loving friends and family if you are hurting, and to be that source of love and support for the people in your life. (And to know that you deserve friends who believe and encourage you, not who make you feel worse. ♥) I hope they remind you that whatever hurt you are facing—it will not last forever.

Thank you for following Adelaide and Regulus on their journey.

Love,

Selina R. Gonzalez
