About the Author

Gwyn A. Williams is Professor of History at University College, Cardiff. He has written Medieval London (1963), Rowland Detroisier: A Working-class Infidel (1965), Artisans and Sans-culottes: Popular Movements in Britain and France During the French Revolution (1968), several articles on Welsh history, and Proletarian Order (1975), which, together with his translation of Paolo Spriano’s Occupation of the Factories (1975), forms part of his work on the Italian marxist Antonio Gramsci.
