Elephant grass was common in some parts of the farm and around the farm. It grew in plenty further away from the farm. We actually did not plant this grass in the homestead as it grew on its own.
It is the grass that we harvested using a scythe and stored as hay for the cows to feed on during the dry season when greenery was rare. On a spell of a few dry days during the rainy season, we harvested a lot of it and left it out for hours before bundling and tying it for storage in the barn nearby.
This was possible because it is a tall and wide grass that is easy to handle that way.
