Lemon grass was planted in our farm strictly for flavoring tea every morning. It was very easy to manage right from the word go. We just got a single segment from a neighbor and started our own bush of lemon grass during the rainy season.
Like scallions, the segment grew and subdivided itself into more segments and became one very thick bush. We intern subdivided the thick bush into smaller bushes and planted them to increase our crop and that developed further into many thick bushes.
We picked the fresh green leaves and cooked with them. We pruned the dry leaves and mulched with them.
It was a perennial crop and so it just slowed down growth during the dry season and picked up growth during the two rainy seasons.
It was completely disease free and required only weeding.
It was for home consumption only.
