Cap is slimy and bright red-orange, growing to 4" wide. It begins convex and becomes flat to concave with a sunken center and upcurved outer margin. Gills are white to creamy, attached, and closely spaced. Stalk is thick, white, and brittle and lacks a collar ring. Spore print is white to pale yellow. The mushroom prefers to grow in boggy areas near pine woodlands during the late summer or fall throughout North America. Poisonous and emetic (causes vomiting).
