Short-stemmed Russula, Russula brevipes

Height to 6"

Cap is up to 8" wide, convex with a depressed center, and colored white to off-white or brownish. The stalk is very short, thick, and stubby; white or creamy. Gills are attached, descending down the stalk, and white or stained brownish. Spore print is white or cream-colored. The Short-stemmed Russula is found in mixed woodlands throughout North America during the summer and fall. It is edible but not particularly flavorful.
