Height to 3"

Cap is up to 3" wide, conical or bell-shaped, becoming flattened with a distinct, raised, central knob. Color is yellowish (straw-colored) with radial fibers that crack open at the margin. Stalk is white or pale brown, fibrous, and equal along its length. Gills are attached or partly attached, whitish, becoming gray-brown. Spore print is brown. The Straw-colored Fiber Head grows in mixed deciduous or coniferous woodlands throughout North America during the late summer and fall. Not edible: poisonous!
