Delicious Milk Cap, Lactarius deliciosus

Height to 2¾"

Cap is up to 5" wide, convex to flat, depressed in the middle with an incurved margin, becoming funnel-shaped with age. Color is orange or beige with concentric darker orange rings. Flesh will stain greenish where bruised. Stalk is thick and colored pale orange. Gills are attached and descend partly down the stalk. Spore print is cream-colored. Like all the milk caps, it exudes a milky latex when cut. The Delicious Milk Cap is found in pine forests throughout North America during the fall. It is edible but not necessarily considered delicious. Also known as the Orange Milky.
