The Shaggy Chanterelle begins as a blunt cylinder and becomes vase-shaped or funnel-shaped with a wavy margin. The inner surface is yellow-orange to red-orange and filled with wooly, fibrous scales that peel upward. The fertile, outside surface is composed of cream to pale yellow-orange longitudinal veins that reach from the cap to the base. Spore print is ochre. The mushroom is found in coniferous woodlands and mountainous areas throughout North America during the summer and fall. Edible but not recommended. Also known as the Scaly Vase Chanterelle and Wooly Chanterelle.
