Golden Onion Rings
Forget about trying to satisfy your onion ring craving at a fast-food restaurant on from a deep fryer. You can make a healthier version in the air fryer.
1 white or Vidalia onion, peeled and sliced 1⁄2-inch thick
1⁄2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 TB. canola oil
1. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F.
2. Separate the onion slices into rings, then place the all-purpose flour and the slices in a sealable plastic bag, shaking to coat. Set aside.
3. Place the low-fat buttermilk and panko breadcrumbs into 2 separate shallow bowls, then stir the canola oil into the breadcrumbs.
4. Using clean hands, remove an onion ring from the flour, dip it into the buttermilk, and coat with the panko mixture. Place each coated onion ring on a plate, then repeat this process with the remaining onion rings.
5. Spray the fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray, then place 5–6 onion rings in the basket and cook for 5 minutes. Repeat this process with the remaining onion rings.
6. Remove the onion rings from the fryer, place on a wire rack, and serve warm.
