A hot chocolate party is an event that both kids and adults can get on board with. Forget about the pressures of hosting a huge dinner, and invite your friends to a fun party they’ll adore. We hosted this relaxed holiday open house at The Red House, an event space in downtown Franklin, Tennessee, where loved ones stopped by for a fun after-dinner treat.
I took inspiration from The Red House’s vintage music poster collection and kept the color scheme simple by just using black and white with a punch of red. I loved the bright primary colors of the posters, and they gave the whole look of the party an edgy, throwback vibe.
We served an assortment of hot chocolate flavors so guests could create the perfect cozy drink. I made pitchers of white hot chocolate and milk hot chocolate for variety and offered decanters of cognac and Kahlúa for adults. Festive toppings and add-ins made each cup special and encouraged mingling as guests created their own concoctions. I made homemade marshmallows in the shape of snowflakes, and Nutella and peanut butter whipped cream to adorn mugs of cocoa. On a black paper table runner, I labeled different topping options, including peppermint sticks, shaved chocolate, caramel, Junior Mints, cinnamon sticks, and toffee.
Oreos stacked in the shape of a tiered cake was the perfect stunner for the black-and-white color scheme, and mid-party, I lit a sparkler on top and encouraged guests to dig in.
