Karina lay on her bed trying to remember a time before Rolf. She had been happy before, right? How had seven days changed her whole life? Now two weeks later every moment was still etched in her mind. Karina you need to get up and get ready for the day, she told herself. Her grandmother would be home soon and she didn’t want her to worry. She quickly got ready and went downstairs.
As she reached the kitchen she heard the doorbell ring. Could it be Rolf? Her heart started to race at the thought. She ran to the door and opened it.
Two enormous men stared down at her. “Jake! Caleb! What are you guys doing here?” she said as they both enveloped her in a hug. “Is Rolf...I mean are you guys alone?” she asked glancing past them.
Jake said, “It’s just us. Can we come in?”
“Of course!” She led them to the front room, and they all sat down.
They looked at her with worried expressions. Suddenly a dark thought came over her. “Wait, is everyone okay? Rolf? Missy?”
“Missy’s fine, but Rolf...Rolf isn’t doing well Karina. You have to come back. He’s miserable without you,” Jake said.
Karina looked away and said quietly, “He’s the one who asked me to leave. He doesn’t want me there. If anything he probably just misses the sex.”
Jake walked over and kneeled in front of her. She looked down into his eyes. She sensed he was really scared, but was trying to keep his emotions in check. “No, he misses you. You are the other half of his soul. We don’t know why, but for some reason he thinks you aren’t happy with him. He doesn’t care that he’s in pain without you,” he said sincerely.
“He’s in pain?” she said anxiously.
“Of course, his mate is not with him,” he said.
“I thought... I thought the pain only happened when we hadn’t completed the mating.”
Caleb came up to stand behind Jake and said “No, when a Lycan male finds his mate, he has to be in constant connection with her. Even going a few hours causes pain. When he went to see your grandmother all those years ago, she asked that he wait a few years before connecting with you. He agreed because she is all the family you have left. He didn’t want to take you away from her. I don’t know how he was able to stand the pain all those years.”
“What? Why did no one tell me?” she said concerned.
“Rolf asked us not to. He wanted you to choose him for him, and not because of an obligation,” Jake said. “But we’ve come to beg you. Please go see him! He’s not well. Before he had hope, and now... and now we don’t see that.”
“Of course I’ll go to him. But he might not want to see me,” she said standing up. “Let me just leave a note for my grandmother.”

She quickly joined them in their car, and they rushed her over to Rolf’s house. She hesitantly walked in the front door. She saw him immediately. He was sitting at a table with only tattered jeans on. He seemed focused on something on the table.
She came up beside him, and although she knew he felt her he didn’t turn around. She lifted her hand and placed it on his bare shoulder. He shuddered at the touch. “Rolf,” she said tentatively.
As if unable to hold back any longer, he quickly stood up and turned around. His eyes seemed to burn as they looked at her. She couldn’t help gasping at his expression. “Are you okay Rolf. Do you... do you want me to leave?”
He didn’t answer. He just continued to stare at her as a man would stare at water in the desert.
“Rolf?” she said again.
Swiftly his arms came out and he crushed her to him. She felt his head on top of hers and he hugged her even closer.
“My little red rose. You are never leaving my sight again. I need you here...I need you with me. I can’t go through that again,” he said vehemently.
“Okay Rolf,” she said loving the feeling of his arms surrounding her.
He held her out and looked down at her. “Do you understand what I’m saying? Even if you want to leave again, I won’t let you. I can’t live without you! I love you too much.”
Surprised she asked, “You love me?”
“Of course I love you, you know that,” he said.
“No, I didn’t,” she whispered.
He took her back in his arms and said, “I know you don’t love me yet like I love you. And... and maybe I’m too old. But I’m hoping some day you might care for me a little. Oh god. I’ll do my best to care for you, and I’ll try not to be rough all the time.”
“I like you rough,” she said with a smile.
She could see his yellow wolf eyes shine through at the comment. He swooped down and kissed her hard. His hungry kiss made her shiver. He lifted her up and ran up the stairs.
She knew exactly where he was heading, “Rolf wait, I need to tell you something.”
He kissed her greedily. “Can’t wait. Need more.” She felt the kiss all the way through her body and decided that the conversation could wait for later.
When they got to their room he threw her on the bed. He ripped off her shirt and skirt. The underwear and bra quickly followed. He removed his clothing quickly and crawled on the bed. He settled between her legs and smiled wickedly down at her.
His mouth captured hers and she could see the yellow eyes peeking out. He didn’t wait another moment before plunging inside of her. She moaned in his mouth and brought her hands around his back.
He pulled out and then drove back in. “I’m never letting you go, do you understand? You are mine forever now.”
“Yes, Rolf,” she said breathlessly.
He repeated “Mine, mine” as he continued to thrust in and out. Every movement was amazing. She quickly felt her body spiraling up. She exploded as he groaned out his own release.
They were both breathing hard as his arms wrapped around her and he settled her against him in the bed. She kissed his neck, and said, “I love you Rolf.”
He looked down at her and said, “You do? Really?”
“Of course I do. You’re my mate,” she said with a smile.
He grinned wide and pulled her closer, “My mate, forever.”
