Victoria Jordan Stone, nationally certified massage therapist, began massage training to supplement her hospice volunteer work in 1989, not expecting massage therapy to become an occupation. Receiving massage therapy had proved vital in restoring her health and well-being following a serious back injury in 1987 and also helped to reduce the stress of operating an ad agency. She found she wanted to help others with their discomforts as she had been helped.
She has specialized in various forms of clinical massage including deep tissue massage; trigger-point therapies; massage in pregnancy; Swedish, myofascial release, cranio-sacral therapy, movement, and hot stone massage; Watsu aquatic bodywork; Thai yoga massage; and reiki, polarity, and lomi lomi massage. She is a Yoga Alliance-registered yoga instructor and a birth doula.
She has also taught couples massage since 1992 and professional massage therapy classes since 1996, becoming a partner in the Blue Ridge School of Massage and Yoga in 2000, where she continues as academic director and one of the primary instructors at the school in Blacksburg, Virginia. In April 2007, her book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Massage Illustrated, was published by Penguin Press. One of the models for the book, photographed by Bob Shell, is Victoria’s daughter Sasha, also a massage therapist.
