tactical considerations
SO FAR,we have considered the various tools of Jeet Kune Do strictly from an offensive viewpoint. However, because real combat does not permit a person to do nothing but attack, we must consider what a student can do when he or she is on the receiving end of an attack. So the next two chapters will deal with the different ways of defending yourself against an attack, as well as ways to counter-attack against an aggressor.
Following those chapters, we will look at the important elements of distance, timing, and rhythm. These qualities help answer the questions of where and when to employ the various tools within a fighting context. Applying and integrating the many elements of Jeet Kune Do in more realistic circumstances require you to engage in sparring. In particular, we will look at how sparring, particularly specific sparring drills, can help you to use what you have learned against someone who is resisting and fighting back.
