GIFT OF WORD OF KNOWLEDGE
…to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit.
—1 CORINTHIANS 12:8
The word of knowledge is a supernatural revelation of divine knowledge or insight into the divine mind, will, or plan, to know things that could not be known otherwise. God will give supernatural data concerning a person, place, or thing so that we can pray about it and receive instructions. He has prophetically given me facts about a person I didn’t have previous knowledge or insight about. God gave me a word of knowledge about a person’s illness after I prayed for them, and I rebuked and cursed the spirit of infirmity and the person was totally healed. Let me share how God speaks through the gift of word of knowledge.
Most prophets will flow in this gift, and some are stronger in specific areas of the word of knowledge. We must have the gift of discerning of spirits so that we are not deceived when this gift is in operation. There are psychics who operate in the realm of the soul where they can receive data or information, facts, and intelligence about a person. The gift of word of knowledge reveals divine facts and it should bring glory to God and reveal that God who is omniscient knows more about us than any human agent. Below is a brief list of biblical support and examples of how the word of knowledge is and works:
1.Names of people revealed (Acts 9:11)
2.Lost items found (1 Sam. 9:20)
3.Enemy exposed (2 Kings 6:9)
4.Relationships revealed (John 4:16-18)
5.Address revealed (Acts 9:11)
6.Actions revealed (John 1:50)
7.Nations revealed (Acts 16:9)
8.Secrets revealed (Dan. 2:47)
God will reveal specific things about people through the gift of word of knowledge. I remember a time I was looking for my wallet, which I never lose, but I looked everywhere and couldn’t find it. I heard the Lord say, “It’s in the car.” So I looked in the car and I was getting so frustrated because I was looking like a fool, looking multiple times in the same place over and over. I said, “Lord, it’s not here,” and the Lord said, “Did you look everywhere?” I said yes and He said, “No you didn’t!”
I sat down to calm down and I heard the Lord whisper: “Look in the trunk.” So I jumped up and looked in the trunk of the car and there was my wallet halfway out of the pocket of a pair of jeans that I had worn. I said, “Father, thank You for that word of knowledge.” He was right that I didn’t look everywhere. I looked on the inside of the car but never thought that it would be in the trunk in a pair of blue jeans. God is very specific when we stop, calm down, and listen to His voice. The supernatural gift of word of knowledge can also be a fragment of knowledge or disclosure of truth implanted by God—not learned through the mind—about a particular person or situation for a specific purpose.
When this supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit is in operation, God will reveal past, present, and even future details concerning specific information or data. A believer can greatly benefit from this powerful gift and hear God speaking as He can use this gift to help bring resolution, closure, understanding, and peace. Any Spirit-filled believer can ask the Lord to give them this gift of word of knowledge.
