MOVIES, COMMERCIALS, AND ADVERTISEMENTS
Have you ever watched a movie, commercial, or theater play that touched you deeply that brought you to tears, joy, anger, excitement, or peace? There is something powerful in the message that the movie, commercial, or billboard advertisement conveyed to us. God can use and speak to us prophetically through these simple but profound methods.
I remember watching a show on 60 Minutes of a man named Nick Vujicic born in Australia with no arms and legs. I watched this show of a person who didn’t allow his disability to stop him from doing normal things that we so take for granted. He was able to cook, clean, swim, read, and so many things. Nick defeated the tremendous odds and proved many wrong. Watching the show brought tears to my eyes and I heard the Lord speak to me through Nick’s life. His story inspired me not to give up and to break any laziness, complacency, and contentment.
God spoke to me through this show that I could overcome any odds set against me if I believe in myself and work hard to achieve what I want. I didn’t need an Archangel Gabriel to come speak to me. I did not need God to give me a dream, vision, and speak audibly to get my attention. God used this show that revolutionized the way I see myself and shifted my way of thinking. If a man born with no legs or arms can live a normal human life with his physical disabilities, then what is my excuse?
I remember watching a one-minute “feed the children” commercial and I was moved by the Spirit of God to do something about it. I heard the Lord impress upon my heart to donate to the cause and it wasn’t even a week later I received a release of a financial settlement of $20,000. The money was held up for three years in a litigation civil case, and as soon as I saw this commercial and gave my settlement payment was released.
God will speak to us when we are paying attention to the signs. I am not talking about supernatural signs in this chapter but signs like a billboard ad. I saw an advertisement on the highway that really ministered to me every day while on my way to work and it is interesting to me that God will speak through movies, commercials, and advertisements that we watch on television or hear on the radio. Most prophetic people reading this understand what I am talking about.
Oftentimes, God will give me a prophetic word of confirmation or revelation in a scene from a movie or a word that I hear in a commercial. There are times I receive my sermon messages after praying for God to confirm and lo and behold I would see something that stood out to me from a movie name, scene, commercial, or billboard advertisement.
There have been times when God would speak a word to me prophetically by a billboard advertisement. I recall a time I was looking for God to confirm for me to start a ministry but was uncertain of the timing. Next thing I saw while driving from state to state were different billboards saying, “Write the vision,” or “The time is now to start your dream,” or “Don’t hesitate to start.” God was allowing me to see those billboards that made sense to me in that particular season. The funny thing about it is that I would ride past those signs all the time but it meant something to me in that moment.
Those words on the billboards or movie theme can speak to us prophetically and personally to allow me to obey God’s instructions. I will say that not all movies will speak to us by revelation or prophetic insight because there are movies that are clearly demonic. However, certain things in movies, commercials, or advertisements will mean something to us personally that we can relate to culturally, spiritually, economically, socially, and mentally.
Movies can move us emotionally to take a stand for something or make life-altering changes depending on the topic or subject. I love Marvel comic movies and the superheroes always stir me up to do good and fight against evil spiritually speaking. With anything like movies we must still discern and distinguish if it’s God speaking to confirm or our own impulsive desires, needs, and cravings.
License plates, traffic signs, billboards, text messages, blogs, paintings, advertising mottos, slogans, logos, pitch phrases, websites, digital marketing, book trailers, etc. are unique ways that God will communicate to us prophetically by revelation through someone else. God takes the meaning of these things and applies them to our own situations. God uses these simple but practical things that we use daily to speak to us.
There was a time I was praying to the Lord concerning what I should do with regard to a particular job. All of a sudden I would see advertisement signs out of nowhere about banking positions “now hiring” or “apply today.” I would be watching television and see all the commercials of banking jobs that were hiring. I would at times get on the Internet and see the same banking job postings saying apply today. God was confirming what I was requesting from Him in prayer. Finally, receiving the many obvious signs from the Lord, I finally applied at this bank in Wilmington, Delaware called The Bancorp Bank, which several weeks later hired me as a customer service representative with no banking experience.
God has a sense of humor and will use modern-day technology to speak to us directly. He will use what is holding our attention like our cell phones, social media, sports, etc. to intervene to talk to us. The power of multimedia and social media is a major marketing engine that just about anybody can share what’s on their heart and mind. We are living in a progressive generation and time when God is speaking so clearly. The Gospel is preached around the globe from right in front of a computer without ever having to leave your home. The modern-day technology is reaching multitudes of people for Christ.
I remember praying about a particular state I wanted to minister in and had never been to before and I was praying for God to confirm what’s next for me. Suddenly, throughout that whole week I kept running into vehicles that had Florida license plates. I reside in Delaware and everyone I talked to that week was from Florida. Later, I was invited to a prophetic conference in Orlando, Florida and throughout that same year I went to Tampa, Clearwater, Gainesville, and Jacksonville, Florida.
God can and will speak a revelation, insight, warning, and prophetic word through multimedia and modern-day technology. Movies, music, and other things can influence and impact us emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. Make sure that you use the power of discernment and quickening influence of the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what is and not from the Lord.
