For individuals who do not know what they are intolerant to, or for those extra sensitive individuals who seem to react to odd foods that are not termed, “inflammatory,” other diets might be an option. The Eat Right for Your Type Diet was developed by Dr. Peter D’Adamo. He scientifically and elegantly describes how certain foods are better tolerated or more aggravating for an individual depending on that person’s blood type. He further discusses particular foods that may be a benefit for some blood types, but can be hindering for others. He describes foods, types of exercises, and even condiments and seasonings that are more appropriate for individuals based on their blood type.

Santorelli, director of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, does a wonderful job with this book, and it is one of Dede’s favorites for aiding her recovery. Santorelli guides the reader through the process of learning to listen to our bodies, and bringing mindfulness into our lives. Most of the patients in the Stress Reduction Clinic have never meditated, or been involved in groups or alternative therapies, so his work, and that of the clinic’s founder, Jon Kabat-Zinn, is highly regarded and a model of success.
Scala, James, The New Eating Right for a Bad Gut: The Complete Nutritional Guide to Ileitis, Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Plume, 2000.
Dr. Scala’s book was one of Dede’s first purchases at her local used bookstore after diagnosis. His advice and step-by-step dietary guidelines are enhanced by his clear and concise education in eating a healthy diet. A great complement to a learning library.

Straus opens for readers a huge grab bag of gimmicks, gadgets, and games from which to draw resources appropriate to every no-talk occasion. This book will be useful for parents or caregivers of younger IBD patients who struggle with a lack of language with which to express their emotions.
