It had been the cruise from hell. But, from the laughter and good feelings around the table, it seemed the events on The Regina Mediterranean were only a distant memory. There was much to celebrate and many things to be thankful for. The Regina Mediterranean was in port in Mykonos, Greece, a lovely island in the Mediterranean with whitewashed cottages and blue roofs. Dottie loved Mykonos and she’d planned a lovely dinner on the island. The owner of the restaurant was an old friend and was the same age as Dottie. Mic was delighted to see Dottie actually flirting with the distinguished elderly gentleman. Mic wasn’t sure she’d ever seen Dottie “flirt,” but she was having a great time watching. She touched Slade on the leg and urged him to watch. She was pleased when Slade cracked a smile.
The group dined outside and consisted of Dottie, Michaela, Slade, Jack, Travis Stoner, and Ian and Alana Pennington, who were visiting the island. Everyone had enjoyed an incredible feast except for Michaela whose left jaw was wired and still terribly painful. She enjoyed an array of fruit juices. Her leg was wrapped in bandages, but was unbroken, just badly bruised.
“We did it,” FBI Agent-in-Charge Stoner announced with a broad grin as he checked his phone for the message he’d been waiting for. “We’ve issued warrants for the arrests of the president, chairman of the board, board members, officers, and executives of Blake Pharmaceutical. They’ve been arrested on felony charges for conspiring to assault and assassinate a government official. We’ll add felony murder charges for the murder of Dr. O’Leary if we find his remains,” he said quietly.
Mic saw a flicker of pain cross Ian’s face when his friend’s name was mentioned. “Suppose we don’t recover his body?” Ian asked.
Stoner nodded, his handsome face grave, “We’ll need a body, Dr. Pennington. Captain Wodensen says there’s still a possibility we’ll find him,” he added in a somber voice.
“When will the arrogant assholes be arrested?” Dottie asked, her face consumed with a smile. “Can we parade them on the ship? Could I make them walk the plank?” she joked. “I want to watch and cheer,” she added with a conspiratorial wink. “I hope they rot in jail, the bastards.”
Agent Stoner grinned at the countess, “They’ve been arrested. You didn’t think we’d let them continue on a posh Mediterranean cruise did you?” he asked with a raised eyebrow. “We got them a half an hour ago. The Greek port police picked them up from The Regina Mediterranean. They’ll be flown to Athens, where they’ll be met by a contingent of FBI agents and law enforcement officials who will escort them back to the United States,” Stoner reported. “Captain Wodensen said the arrest went well,” he said with a smile.
“I’ll drink to that,” Jack said as he raised his glass of Retsina. “Cheers,” he said as everyone laughed and echoed his toast.
Mic, since she couldn’t speak, held up a sign to Jack that said, “Sorry about St. Germaine. Next time... okay?”
Jack nodded as a small pop of anger passed across his face. “Yeah, Mic. Next time,” he agreed. “Although, we did learn a few things this go around,” he said a satisfied look on his face. “The information that St. Germaine and Snake work together is invaluable.”
Slade nodded and said, “Yeah, it is. Now we know they’re international assassins or killers for hire. We didn’t know that until now, nor did we know they worked together.”
Stoner interrupted and said, “The Bureau is looking into that. We think they work for an international crime syndicate. That’s been our position since the terror attack in New Orleans. We know, or are reasonably sure, that St. Germaine is a part of one. We have him most likely as associated with Bratva.”
“Yeah. That may work,” Slade agreed. “We know the guy who masterminded the attack in Richmond was definitely Bratva.”
Dottie gazed around the table and saw fear in Alana Pennington’s eyes. “It’s time to party. Attention everyone, let’s save this talk for later, it’s time for dessert and after dinner drinks. Everyone drink up. The night is still young,” Dottie said gaily as she winked at the elderly restaurant owner who couldn’t take his eyes off her.
Michaela looked over at Dottie and shook her head. The old girl was amazing and once again, she’d saved her life. Mic reached down and petted Angel. Then she raised her juice glass, pointed, and mouthed, “To Dottie.”
Everyone cheered and Dottie wiped away her tears.
Life was good after all. They’d get the bad guys next time. The bad guys always lost, didn’t they?
The End
Until the next adventure...
