A day is coming. A remarkable day. A day when God the Father leans toward God the Son and whispers in His ear, “It’s time to get Your bride.” It’s the day Jesus, the Lover of your soul, splits the sky wide open and comes down to scoop you up in the clouds to bring you home. “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever” (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 NLT).

Jesus first came as an infant, held in Mary’s arms. But one day He will return, and this time He will hold you in His arms forever. Forever.

Jesus Himself gave us the promise: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3).

Some days you may look to the sky and wish it were “the” day. You may long for the day to come quickly. Sometimes we feel that ache not just because we long to be with Jesus but because we want to be rescued from the sorrow, stress, and pain we can’t escape here on earth.

If you feel the longing for “that day,” take comfort that “the one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24). He will come back for you.

Jesus will return for you because you are His—His beloved child. Trust that until He carries you home with Him, He will carry you through every day of your life. So, “since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet” (5:8).
