Everybody sins. Every person since the dawn of time has blown it and come up short compared to God’s perfection. Adam and Eve started it, and everyone—from the most devout to the most depraved among us—has kept it up ever since. It’s our nature to sin. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8). But it is the loving nature of God to forgive sin and cleanse us! God takes our sin and makes us brand-new through “the blood of Jesus, his Son,” and, no matter what we’ve done, He “purifies us from all sin” (1:7).
If you feel as though your soul is dirty and your spirit is weighed down by layers and layers of guilt from sin, God’s love is waiting with the forgiveness you crave. Just tell God. Admit your sin and ask Him to clean you up. He will: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1:9).
Love doesn’t overlook the sin that hurts us and dishonors God. Love points out our sins so we can confess them and then makes a way to erase them. The God who loves you forgives you when you ask Him to. He washes you clean and gives you a fresh start. Your sin is lost in the shadow of His forgiveness, covered by the royal train of His mercy and majesty. That’s what God does. The prophet Micah cried, “You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:19).
He doesn’t forgive us because we deserve it; He forgives us because in His mercy He decided to. When God makes you clean, you radiate His beauty, and when He looks at you, He only sees the radiance of Jesus’ pure and righteous life. He no longer sees your sin. So receive and feel the love of God today by confessing your sin and being cleansed by His forgiveness. Then you can humbly say, “For You have cast all my sins behind Your back” (Isaiah 38:17 NKJV). And when it comes to your forgiven sin, God does not have eyes in the back of His head!
