The guests have been seated. The candles are lit. The attendants have walked down the aisle, brilliantly colored bouquets in hand. The music swells. The minister signals for everyone to stand. Every eye is focused . . . but not on the bride. Every eye turns to the One and Only: the Groom, the main character of this love story. The apostle John described Him this way: “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. . . . On his head are many crowns” (Revelation 19:11–12).
This marriage celebration is like none other. It centers on the unveiling of Jesus, the Lamb of God, your Savior, the One and only King of the universe. All eyes are fixed on the Beautiful One as the magnificent choir sings:
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.” (19:6–7)
The bride beholds the Groom. She is finally there. You are there. God’s beloved people, His church, are His bride. And God Himself has made the bride ready. He has purified His church and made us holy. He dresses us in a radiant garment of “fine linen, bright and clean” (19:8).
The joy we will feel over such an undeserved union will be felt by Jesus too. Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom, will beam with joy and pride when we, His restored children, His redeemed church, are by His side forever.
God has poured out His love on us—not just sixty-six ways—a million ways. But nothing compares to the way we will experience His love at the wedding feast of the Lamb, when we will behold our Bridegroom. He’s coming for us—He’s coming for you, His beloved and treasured bride. “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ ” And you and I say, today and every day, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus” (22:20).
