Throughout the pages of Zechariah, God whispers, “Don’t worry, child. Even if it feels like the world—your world—is a mess, your Messiah will come.” The love of God for you is fully proven in the Son of God, who has come for you. The prophet Zechariah foretold His coming: “Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt” (Zechariah 9:9 NLT).

Sometimes we feel unsure because the world seems to spin out of control. Injustice, violence, fear, and turmoil can make us want to look back to better days or cast our eyes down. But we can look forward to better days—to the best day ever! We can be assured that “the LORD will save his people on that day as a shepherd saves his flock. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown” (9:16).

Just as the Jews looked forward to the coming of Messiah, a day will come when the Messiah comes again! On that day He will complete the promise: “a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity” (13:1).

Love promises us “that day” will come!

Jesus—the Messiah, the hope of all nations—will come! Just as He came into Jerusalem five hundred years after Zechariah made his prediction of a “king . . . riding on donkey’s colt,” He will come again on “a white horse,” and He who sits upon it will be called “Faithful and True,” and “on His robe and on His thigh He [will have] this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:11, 16).

God promised a Messiah, and He sent Jesus. God promises that Jesus will return, and He will. Ask God to infuse you today with the hope and rejoicing of “that day” so you can feel the calm assurance that all you see right now is not all there is!
