Freedom rings from every book and every page of Scripture. But nowhere do the liberty bells peal more beautifully and clearly than in the book of Galatians. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free,” Paul wrote (Galatians 5:1). God’s love has set you free from condemnation and confusion, free from the curse of sin, and free from the lie that you need to do something extra to be accepted by God.

And this freedom costs us nothing because it cost Jesus everything. God loves you so much that He purchased your freedom once and for all on the Cross. When Christ died and rose again, the final payment for your forever freedom was paid in full. You don’t owe a penny or a penalty. You are no longer a slave to the sin that threatened to take you down. “We receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ” (3:22 NLT). God has set you free through His Son, Jesus, and “if the Son sets you free, you [are] free indeed” (John 8:36).

You may feel stuck today in a habit or a mind-set. You may feel as if you are a slave to your past or to others’ opinions. You may look at your life and still see the shadow of some chains that once shackled you to defeat or discouragement. But a bell is ringing in your spirit. It is the song of freedom stirring in your soul. It is what Paul rang for the believers in Galatia—you are free.

“Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1). The God who set you free wants you to stay free—free to follow Him and walk in His love.

There is no chain, no shackle, stronger than God’s love for you. And His love has set you free, so let go of any chain you may think is still yours and pick up the bell of freedom instead.

Ring it loud and long! Let it resonate in your spirit today, “for the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:2 ESV).
