Peaseblossom Doily and Beanie

A very simple six-wedge doily is nice on its own, but it also makes a very nice beanie! Because all of the increases are worked in the first few rows, the shape is somewhat lumpy when it comes off the needles. But it just takes a little blocking to straighten things out! Knit the doily first to learn the pattern or skip ahead to the beanie.

Finished Size

Doily: About 8" (20.5 cm) in diameter.

Beanie: About 18" (45.5 cm) in circumference; will stretch comfortably to 22" to 24" (56 to 61 cm).

Note

Doily

Knit 1 rnd.

Work Rnds 1–28 of Peaseblossom Doily Chart—120 sts.

With RS facing, use the gathered crochet method (see Techniques) to BO as foll: *[gather 3, chain 6] 2 times, gather 3, chain 8, gather 5, chain 8, [gather 3, chain 6] 2 times; rep from *. Secure the final chain to the first group of gathered sts with a sl st.

Cut yarn, leaving a 9" (23 cm) tail. Pull tail through rem loop to secure.

Finishing

Weave in loose ends but do not trim the tails.

Soak in cool water at least 30 minutes. Roll in a towel to remove extra water. Lay on a flat padded surface and place a pin in each crochet loop, stretching firmly to finished dimensions.

Allow to air-dry completely before removing pins.

Trim tails on woven-in ends.

Finishing

Weave in loose ends but do not trim the tails.

Soak in cool water at least 30 minutes. Roll in a towel to remove extra water. Place beanie over an inverted 7" (18 cm) bowl, then place the bowl on a coffee can, allowing the ribbing to hang free. Smooth the flower design over the top of the bowl, gently blocking with your fingers.

Allow to air-dry completely before removing pins.

Trim tails on woven-in ends.
