Zoltan arrived to give his report, but even before he opened his mouth, Teysa knew the vampire had failed.
“It didn’t work,” he said simply.
“And why is that? Don’t tell me your legendary powers of seduction have failed your guild.”
“They have. As to the why…you can blame the Izzet guildmaster, Ral Zarek.”
“Was he there? I thought—”
“He was there in every way that mattered. I failed because our Tomik truly loves Zarek. Unshakably loves him. That love makes Tomik Vrona unseducible. Invulnerable. And strong. Very strong.”
Teysa scowled. “You sound like you admire him.”
“Don’t you?”
“I admire his competence, not his naïveté.”
Zoltan shrugged. “Vrona doesn’t seem naïve to me.”
Teysa was quiet for some time. Finally, she sighed and said, “Plan C, then.”
