ANY PORT IN A STORM

Oh, the great travel of being a golf course architect!

One day I was flying thru Miami airport and needed to connect to the last flight of the day going to Nassau, Bahamas. It was the Friday night of a holiday weekend in the winter, and I had a client meeting the next morning in Nassau. I missed the connecting flight by five minutes, so I was stuck in Miami for the night.

After trying to get a room at the hotel in the airport and calling eight others, I decided it was better to try in person. I was directing the taxi driver from hotel to hotel. It was a good thing my taxi driver was willing to help me, because we tried another few spots and had no luck. It was looking like a night in the airport until the taxi driver asked if I wouldn’t mind her suggesting a motel. She said she knew of a spot I might like, and took me there. Indeed, there was a vacancy.

The TV remote was anchored to the table and the headboard had a car stereo built into it, but at least it was a bed to sleep in!
