²¹ Vivian Henry Bruce Majendie (1886–1960) had been educated at Winchester College and Sandhurst. As Commander of the Ist Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry he was eminently suited for writing A History of the 1st Battalion, the Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s) July Ist 1916 to the end of the War (1921). He ended his long and useful career in the Army as a Major-General, and he retired in 1946.
