Thom Brooks is an author, columnist and senior policy advisor – and a leading authority on immigration law and policy. He appears frequently in the media, often commenting on citizenship and migration-related topics, including with BBC One, BBC News, ITV, Sky News, Al Jazeera, CNN, France 24, BBC Radio 4, BBC 5 Live and leading newspapers. Brooks is a regular contributor to LabourList and the Newcastle Journal. He is originally from New Haven (US), but lives in Sedgefield (UK) and holds dual American and British citizenship. He became British in 2011.
Brooks is Professor of Law and Government at Durham University’s Law School where he is an award-winning author and teacher. He is also a visiting fellow at Yale University’s Law School. He has held visiting appointments at the University of Oxford, the University of St Andrews, Uppsala University and previously worked at Newcastle University. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Higher Education Academy, Royal Historical Society and Royal Society of Arts. His books include The Legacy of John Rawls (2005), Punishment (2012), Ethical Citizenship (2014) and Rawls’s Political Liberalism (co-edited with Martha C. Nussbaum, 2015).
