Dior sighed as she checked the time again. Breeze was always running late. She was about to call her friend when she saw her zip around the corner in her Infinity. Dior could say what she wanted about Primo, but he was taking care of Breeze. She was living the life she’d always dreamed of and Dior couldn’t help but be happy for her.
“Dang, you always late,” Dior said as she got into the small car.
“Cash was actin’ crazy, hollerin’ and runnin’ around. He had somethin’ in his paw and I had to get it out,” Breeze explained.
Dior looked into the backseat where the dog was sleeping in a little Louis Vuitton dog carrier.
“What color ya’ll wearin’?” Breeze asked as she headed to a bridal shop that she’d heard advertising on the radio a lot lately.
“I don’t know yet. Brian said whatever color I want. I guess I’ll see what I like the best and what’s the cheapest.”
“The cheapest? You can’t get what’s cheap,” Breeze said with a frown.
“Everybody ain’t ballin’ like you and Primo,” Dior reminded her friend.
“Shid. If I got it you got it, so let’s find you the flyest dress money can buy.”
Dior knew that Breeze would always have her back which is why she’d never hesitate to have her best friend’s back.
“Hello ladies,” the young, over- tanned, bleached blonde woman greeted them as they walked into the brightly lit bridal boutique.
“Hello,” they both replied politely.
“Are you ladies shopping for a wedding or for prom?” she asked, unable to tell exactly how old they were.
“Prom,” Dior answered as she admired a couple of dresses that were on display.
“Okay. Did you have anything special in mind?” she asked with a smile.
“No.”
“What about you?” the woman asked Breeze.
“Oh, just her,” she said shaking her head.
“All right then, let me grab a few styles and we can see what you like best,” she said as she led them over to a sitting area. “I’m Jessica by the way,” she said before she walked away.
“This place is nice. Ain’t nobody from our school comin’ all the way out here,” Dior said as she looked around.
“I know. Them bitches gon’ be hatin’.”
“Come with me,” Jessica said a few minutes later once she’d returned with two cold bottles of water. Dior followed Jessica into a fitting room while Breeze sat down.
Breeze looked through her purse as she heard her cell phone vibrating inside.
“Hey baby,” she answered once she’d found her phone.
“Where you at?” Primo asked.
“Yo’ memory ain’t worth a damn,” she told him. “I’m shoppin’ for a prom dress wit’ Dior,” she reminded him.
“Who the fuck you think you goin’ on prom wit’?” he demanded.
“Nobody. Dior is gettin’ a dress. I’m just helpin’ her decide,” she explained as Dior returned in a beautiful ball gown.
“Yeah aiight. Let me find out you tryin’ to sneak to prom wit’ a lil’ nigga. Imma fuck both of ya’ll up,” he warned.
“Ain’t nobody sneakin’ nowhere wit’ nobody.”
“Yeah aiight. I’ll see you tonight,” he said before he hung up.
Breeze shook her head as she placed her cell phone on the bench next to her. Primo could be so paranoid, jealous and possessive sometimes.
“What you think?” Dior asked as she admired herself in the mirror.
“It’s pretty, but it’s kinda over the top, don’t you think?”
“Yeah,” Dior agreed.
Breeze waited patiently while her friend went to try on another dress. After an empire waist, sleeveless, pink dress, a short, black cocktail dress and a yellow dress that looked like it belonged to Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Dior came out in an electric blue dress that took Breeze’s breath away.
The strapless bodice was covered in jewels and hugged Dior’s upper body until it reached her waist where the skirt literally exploded into flowing ruffles that fell downward in spirals instead of around like a tutu.
It was shorter in the front, showing off her knees and a little thigh, and gradually got longer towards the back. The friends locked eyes and they both knew that it was the perfect dress.
“That’s sexy,” Breeze said.
“I know. I love it,” Dior said as she admired herself in the three-way mirror.
“Get it,” Breeze told her.
“How much is this one?” Breeze asked Jessica.
“Who cares?” Breeze asked before Jessica could answer. “Show her some shoes and stuff that match this dress,” Breeze told Jessica who happily walked off in search of some accessories. She liked Breeze’s way of thinking.
Dior continued to admire herself in the mirror until Jessica returned. Most of the shoes that she’d brought were okay, but Dior especially liked a pair of three inch, silver heels covered in Swarovski crystals.
She slipped the shoes on and Jessica strapped them up. There was a butterfly on each ankle and strings of jewels that hung down underneath the butterflies.
“Damn, I’m glad I ain’t goin’,” Breeze joked. “I don’t know if I could compete wit’ you,” she added.
“I know right,” Dior said as she twirled around in the mirror.
She decided on a silver clutch that was also covered in crystals. She didn’t know how she’d wear her hair yet, but Breeze talked her into getting some jeweled hair pins and a headband covered in jewels just in case. Dior had figured she could just go to Clair’s and grab some jewelry, but Breeze wasn’t having that.
“I’ll get you some real jewels,” she assured her friend as she collected all sorts of things from double sided clothing tape, to a stick on bra, a garter and anything else that caught her eye. Her friend was going to be ready for whatever on prom night.
“That’ll be thirteen seventy-eight thirty-nine,” the cashier said with a smile.
“I got six,” Dior said as she went into her purse to get the money that Brian had given her.
“Aiight. I got the rest,” Breeze said as she pulled a thick wad of cash out of her purse.
“Thanks,” Dior said, trying not to stare at the money in her friend’s hand.
“No problem. I can’t have my girl out there any kind of way.”
Breeze loved having money and she loved spending it even more. She was going all out for her senior prom next year.
