Chapter 64

Breeze searched through the dresser, under the mattress and in the closet. She couldn’t find out where Primo kept any money. All drug dealers kept money around the house, didn’t they?

When Primo had hesitated to agree to cover Brian’s medical bills Breeze realized just how quickly things could change. He could stop supporting her at any moment and she’d be left high and dry. She’d be forced to swallow her pride and go back to Lauren’s house. She couldn’t allow that to happen.

She jumped as she heard the automatic garage door opening. She put everything back as she’d found it.

“Breezy,” She heard Primo call out.    “Yeah?” she said as she made her way down the stairs.

“What you doin’?” he asked as she sat down next to him on the couch.

“Nothin’. How was your day?” she asked.

“Long.” He sighed. “What you cookin’?”

“What you want?”

“Somethin’ good. I think we should go out. I want a nice steak,” he told her.

“I can make steak,” she assured him. “You take a shower and I’ll make dinner,” she said before she kissed him and headed into the kitchen.

Breeze had been cooking most of her life, but it wasn’t anything spectacular. Since she’d been spending so much time alone she’d been watching a lot of cooking shows and making a lot of new dishes. She knew that Primo hadn’t been joking when he’d said that he wanted a girl that could cook. She didn’t get to cook for him too often though, since he was always out of town.

She went to the store and got some fresh rib-eye steaks, twice baked potatoes and the most expensive bottle of wine the grocery store had. Once she was back home she put the wine into the refrigerator, seasoned the steaks and put the potatoes into the oven. While the potatoes were baking and the steaks were marinating she set the table.

Once the potatoes were halfway done, Breeze seared the steaks then put them in the oven as well. When she figured the other food was almost done, she put some garlic bread into the oven. She plated everything neatly, like they did on TV, and called Primo into the kitchen.

“Dinner is served,” she said as she poured them both a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon.

“Damn baby, I hope it taste as good as it smell,” he said as he sat down.

Primo thoroughly enjoyed his meal and was glad that Breeze could cook. She enjoyed her food, but could have done without the wine.

“That was on point,” Primo said as he leaned back in his chair.

“I told you I could make you a nice steak,” she said, beaming proudly.

“You sure did. Now I wanna taste you,” he said with a smile.

“Not before dessert,” she said as she cleared the table.

“You made dessert, too?” he asked.

“Yep. Your favorite,” she said as she uncovered a pineapple upside down cake that she’d baked earlier that day.

“Damn girl, you finna ask me to buy you another car or somethin’?” he teased as she placed a slice of cake and a clean fork in front of him.

“Would you?” she teased back.

“At this rate I might buy yo’ ass a whole dealership.”

“I don’t need all that, but I’ll remember how to butter you up just in case,” she said before she winked at him.
