Brandon and Brian exchanged confused looks as Officer Hayes came into the house and sat down.
“How you doing son?” Officer Hayes asked Brian.
“I’m all right,” Brian replied.
“Good. Dior wouldn’t happen to be here, would she?”
“No. Everything all right?” Brandon asked.
“Well, we have some new information and I just thought I’d tell you all together,” Officer Hayes explained.
“What information?” Brian wanted to know.
“Well, we were waiting for ballistics results and they confirm what we suspected all along. As we originally thought, the bullets that hit you on prom night were fired from the same gun as the one that was used to kill Darnell.”
“Big D, right?” Brandon asked.
They had been under the impression that Darnell had shot Brian before he was shot and killed.
“I’m pretty sure that it was Preston, known by most as Primo but—”
“Wait a minute,” Brian interrupted. “Primo that Breeze fuck wit’?” he asked.
“Yeah. Breeze originally lied about his being there on the night of the shootings and now I can see why.”
“So Primo gon’ be arrested?” Brandon asked.
“No,” Officer Hayes said as he shook his head. “He actually found an idiot dumb enough to take all of the charges for him.”
“So he just walks away Scott-free?” Brandon asked.
“For now. But the Feds are all over his ass and if they get to him before another rival gang, he’ll spend the rest of his days behind bars.”
Brandon asked Officer Hayes some more questions, but Brian was still registering what he’d just been told. Breeze’s boyfriend had paralyzed him and Dior hadn’t mentioned it. He figured that might account for the strain on the relationship between Breeze and Dior and it was about to cause a strain on Dior’s relationship with him as well.
