Breeze sat on the bed watching as Primo packed an overnight bag.
“Where you goin’?” she asked as she pretended to be busy with her cell phone.
“Just a lil’ run to Atlanta,” he replied.
“When you comin’ back?”
“A few days.”
“Aww. I miss you so much when you gone,” she whined.
“I know baby, but I’ll be back as soon as possible,” he said before he leaned in and kissed her on the lips.
“I’ll be here waiting for you.”
Breeze called to check on Dior while Primo finished preparing for his trip.
“How is the little one?” Breeze asked.
“Fine. They said I was gon’ spoil him but, C and Brian the worst.”
“I bet. I can’t wait ‘til he gets bigger. Imma kidnap him.”
“Good luck wit’ that. I can barely get to him.”
The friends talked until about thirty minutes after Primo had left.
“Well you get some rest and I’ll call you tomorrow,” Breeze said before she hung up.
She double checked that the doors were all locked and that the alarm was set before she went to try and open the safes that she’d discovered while watching her homemade DVDs.
There was one in their master bathroom and one in one of the guest bedrooms. She could barely make out the combinations in the videos, but she was going to try anyway.
“You on the road already?” she asked when Primo answered his phone.
“Yeah, what’s up?” he asked.
“Just missin’ you.”
“You so spoiled.”
“I know. Call me when you get settled in for the night,” she told him before they ended the call.
Now that she was sure that Primo wouldn’t be turning around and coming back home Breeze could get down to business. She sat her phone on the bathroom floor and removed the cleaning supplies and whatnot from underneath the cabinet. She tried five different combinations before she was successful.
She took a picture of the neatly stacked bundles of money before taking it out and counting it. She referred to the picture that she’d taken a few minutes earlier and put the money back just as she’d found it. She put everything back underneath the cabinet and headed into the guest bedroom at the end of the hall.
She found the safe behind a false wall inside the closet. She tried the combination that had worked on the first safe, but it didn’t work.
She looked into the notepad on her cell phone and started to go through the different sets of combinations until she found the one that worked. She did the same thing that she’d done with the money in the first safe, then went to take a bubble bath.
There was exactly two hundred and fifty thousand dollars in each safe. She’d seen Primo take money in and out of the safes quite often so she figured that he knew exactly how much was in them. She guessed that he stored excess money there temporarily, but only kept two hundred and fifty thousand in them on a regular basis. That was a half a million dollars of cold, hard cash.
Realizing that Primo had another woman and kids was heart breaking, but that kind of money would definitely ease her pain. Breeze knew that Primo would never forgive her for taking his money so she had to come up with a serious plan of action to ensure that he’d never be able to find her.
