Breeze was a little nervous as the front door of the big house slowly opened. Why was she meeting this woman? If Primo was willing to introduce them to one another there was no way that he was having sex with Honey.
“I didn’t think you were actually coming,” Honey said before she wrapped her arms around Primo’s neck. She kissed his cheek before turning her attention to Breeze.
“I’m Honey. You must be Breeze.”
“Yeah.”
“Breeze, this is Honey. Honey, this is my baby Breeze,” Primo introduced them as if Honey hadn’t just introduced herself.
“Ain’t that what I just said?” Honey asked as she playfully rolled her eyes at Primo. “It’s nice to meet you,” Honey said with a sincere smile. “I didn’t even know Primo had a girlfriend.”
“It’s nice to meet you, too.”
“Come in, sit down.”
Honey led the couple into the living room. Breeze was having second thoughts about Honey and Primo’s relationship now that she’d seen her. Any man in his right mind would be crazy not to be attracted to her.
She was only about five feet tall with mocha colored skin and the voice of an angel. Her shoulder-length hair was brown with golden highlights and her chestnut eyes seemed to sparkle.
Breeze pulled her eyes away from Honey as she and Primo sat down on the white, leather couch.
“Where the kids?” he asked.
“Doing their homework. They were just asking about you.”
Honey excused herself before she went upstairs.
“What are you doing here?” Sasha asked.
“I came to see my baby girl,” Primo told her.
“I thought you were coming Friday.”
“Now I got a limit on when I can come over?”
“Nooooo.”
“Sasha and Jeremy, this is Uncle Primo’s friend Breeze,” Honey said as she nudged her son further into the living room. He was shy while Sasha was outspoken enough for the both of them.
“Hi Miss Breeze,” the kids said in unison.
“Hey.”
––––––––
Breeze had been skeptical about meeting Honey, but after dinner and a couple of drinks she was convinced that things between her and Primo were platonic.
“Can you tuck us in? Sasha asked after a long yawn.
“Yeah. Come on.”
Honey smiled as she watched Primo and the kids go up the stairs.
“Do you want kids?” she asked Breeze.
“Uh, I don’t know. Maybe one day.”
“Primo would be a great father. He could just give us money, but he spends time with the kids, too. I’m grateful, but I know he doesn’t have to do it.”
Breeze nodded her agreement.
“But I guess with the lifestyle he leads kids might not be the best option. I never thought Domiano would get locked up. I was so damned naïve.”
“How do you do it?”
“I don’t have any other choice. When Dom was home he took care of me and Sasha. He was in jail by the time Jeremy was born, but I know he loves us. I’m just glad he has a friend like Primo.”
“In seven years you never messed wit’ nobody?”
Honey laughed.
“No. At first I was so sad about losing Dom that I didn’t wanna date nobody. Then I realized I had a young daughter and an infant son and I didn’t have time to date.”
“And you and Primo never?”
“Oh God no. I love Primo but not like that. I don’t even look at him like that.”
“Good,” Breeze half-joked.
“He loves you,” Honey said surely. “In seven years I’ve never met a woman that he was dating.”
Breeze smiled nervously.
“Don’t be scared,” Honey said as she placed her hand on Breeze’s leg. “Primo is a good man and even locked up, he’ll take care of you.”
Breeze shook her head. She knew that Primo would take care of her.
“And you can call me anytime. I know you got your own friends, but they might not be able to understand exactly what you’re dealing with.
Losing a man to the correctional system is almost worse than losing him to death.”
Breeze knew that Honey was trying to help but she was making Breeze sad. She didn’t want to think about losing Primo at all.
“What ya’ll talkin’ about?” Primo asked as he sauntered down the stairs.
“Shoes,” Honey replied with a smile.
“Oh hell nah. Women got two feet but need two thousand shoes. Why is that?” he asked as he sat back down next to Breeze.
“Option,” Honey and Breeze replied in unison.
They all talked and laughed for a couple more hours before deciding to call it a night.
“Call me,” Honey told Breeze after a hug.
“I will.”
