Dr G H Bennett, Dr R Bennett and E Bennett

Dr G H Bennett is the author of over a dozen books covering military, diplomatic and maritime history. His works include: Destination Normandy: Three American Regiments on D-Day; Hitler’s Admirals; Survivors; British Merchant Seamen in the Second World War; and The RAF’s French Foreign Legion: De Gaulle, the British and the Rebirth of French Airpower 1940–1945. He has worked at Plymouth University since 1992, where he is an Associate Professor of History. Dr Bennett is a Trustee of The Britannia Museum, Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

R Bennett joined the Merchant Navy as a 16 year old deck apprentice with the Bank Line in 1945. He later had a career in education before retiring as Reader Emeritus at the University of Derby.

G H and R Bennett have written two books together Survivors: British Merchant Seamen in the Second World War (Hambledon, 1999) and Hitler’s Admirals (United States Naval Institute, 2004).

E Bennett is a film-maker and historical researcher.
