Chapter 14

Wow, the view from your place is amazing,” Sasha said as she stood in Monique’s condo staring out the window. The lights of several monuments were lit up, reflecting on the Potomac. She had a nice apartment in New York, but it did not come close to this place. If she moved here, it would give her a chance to get to know her father. Monique walked back into the room. And her sister too, she thought.

“Thanks, Al gave me this condo.”

“Really, do you think he will give me one?” Sasha asked over her shoulder. “I know I would not be able to afford this on my own.”

“If you ask him to. Are you serious about finding a job here?”

“I think I am,” Sasha said. “I was hesitant, to say the least, about coming here with you. But now, I feel like it’s where I am supposed to be.”

“Then I say, you should put in your resignation.”

“Not before I have a job.” Sasha adjusted the necklace Monique had on.

“Okay.” Monique smoothed her dress down. “How do I look?”

Sasha looked at her little sister. She was beautiful, but there was no way that fierceness of hers could be covered up. There was a presence about Monique that made her unique. “Like a woman any mother would want for her son.”

Monique picked up a black cloth. “Sasha, I have to do this before I go to Grayson, so don’t give me a hard time.”

Sasha looked at her like she had lost her mind. “A blindfold, Monique? Seriously? Why?”

“Look, I don’t have time to get you where you have to go the traditional way. I have to use an alternate route to get you to the man.”

Alternate route? What the hell? Sasha thought as Monique tried to explain.

“I could gag you and drag you where you have to go, but since you helped me get dressed for this dinner, I’m trying to treat you nice.”

“Nice, by putting a blindfold on me and dropping me off to some man?” Sasha hissed.

“You promised you would help my friend,” Monique said. “I don’t know the urgency, but he needs to know what is in the documents he received. Do you think for one moment I would lead you into danger?”

Sasha all but laughed. “This coming from the woman who drove me through a car chase, a shootout, and then caused me to walk into a stealth helicopter?”

“I get your point.” Monique nodded. “Look, I don’t want to be late and I’m already nervous. Now, help a sister out. Put on the damn blindfold.”

Her sister came to her rescue when she was in danger and introduced her to the family. When she told her about an associate that needed her expertise, Sasha felt it was the least she could do. She sighed. “You do look really nice in that dress and blazer.”

“I miss my boots.” Monique pouted.

“You don’t wear boots to meet mothers. You want to let her see what her son sees.” Sasha smiled. “She’s going to love you, just like I do.”

“I’m happy we found each other, Sasha. I got your six from this day forward. You know that...right?”

Sasha glanced up at her larger-than-life little sister. She had a feeling this was a turning point for them. Yes, they had just met, but Monique was hilarious, sassy and dangerous as hell. At this point Sasha could not imagine life without her and her antics. She knew Monique worked for the government, but in what capacity, she wasn’t sure and was certain she did not want to know. Bottom line, she may not love everything about her sister, but she did trust her enough to know Monique would not put her in danger.

“I have no idea what having my six means, but I got your back anytime,” Sasha replied.

Monique nodded. “That’s what I got your six means. I got your back no matter what.”

Sasha smiled. “We’re learning to communicate.”

Monique rolled her eyes upwards. “Yes, we are. Now put on the damn blindfold.”

Sasha sighed and took the black cloth from Monique. “All right.”

Sasha allowed Monique to cover her. “If we are going somewhere don’t forget my coat.”

“You’re not going to need your coat,” Monique replied. “Just keep your phone on so I can track you.”

“Why do you have to track me?” Sasha asked as she put her phone in her jeans pocket.

“I don’t. It’s just a precaution.”

Monique took her hand guiding her around. She felt clothes. Were they in a closet? Why in the hell were they in the closet?

Monique put her hand on her back. “Okay, sit.”

“What?” Sasha raised an eyebrow.

“Sit and I’m going to sit beside you.”

Sasha glanced toward Monique just as she wrapped her arms about her. They leaned back and fell through a hole. Sasha screamed. Holy crap what had Monique done to her…no, not her, them. They were falling backwards at a fast speed. Suddenly they hit the bottom. They fell backwards pushing a door open.

“My god, Monique. What in the hell was that? If you don’t take this blindfold off of me I am going to seriously hurt you,” Sasha hissed.

“Just two more minutes.” Monique helped her to her feet.

“Whoa,” Sasha proclaimed as she tried to balance herself.

“Now that was fun, wasn’t it,” Monique said then pulled the cloth from her face.

“Hell no that wasn’t fun, Monique. I can’t believe you did something like that without warning me.” Sasha huffed.

“Chalk it up to us going on a rollercoaster ride when we were younger.”

“We never went on a rollercoaster ride or any other ride when we were younger,” Sasha growled.

“Well, I’m making up for that lost adventure and I don’t have time for you to be hysterical.” She then turned Sasha around and said, “Here is your interpreter.”
