SIX AWESOME AND INCREDIBLY WEIRD POWERS OF SUPERMAN

We all know that Superman is super strong, practically invulnerable, can look through walls with his X-ray vision, and can burn things with his heat vision. But that’s not the end of it—Superman has had some even more awesome (and crazy) powers over the years. Here are six of the oddest superpowers Superman has ever had (and we’re not counting flying…he’s a superhero, people; it comes with the territory).

1 Super-control over his facial features. One of the most bizarre powers Superman has, this one has not been used very much in the last, oh, fifty years or so. But for the first decade of Superman’s existence, he would frequently demonstrate the ability to contort his face into all sorts of appearances. This was quite helpful, as you might imagine, for undercover assignments.

2 Super-yell. Superman’s shouts have been measured at roughly one million decibels and can be heard for a five-mile radius. His voice is strong enough to destroy diamonds!

3 Super-hypnotism. This one has been used almost entirely to keep his identity a secret, like hypnotizing Lois Lane into forgetting that she has knowledge of who he really is. In one early 1980s story, we discover that Superman has been subconsciously using Super-Hypnosis for all of these years to make people think Clark Kent looks different from Superman.

4 Super–muscular control. Superman uses this power to stop the beating of his heart, so that people will think he has died. He used this a number of times during the 1940s. You’d figure someone would have spread the word. “Don’t trust it! Superman’s faking!”

5 Super-intellect. Superman during the Silver Age not only had a brilliant intellect but also he had an almost obsessive ability to recall things that he learned. Once, he performed an eye operation simply by reading a few books about how to perform them. And after all, he did build a series of extremely lifelike Superman robots to serve him. That takes a pretty heady intellect!

6 Super-Kiss. In Action Comics #306, Lois and Clark are under the mistletoe, so Clark decides to give Lois a Super-Kiss. It almost literally blows her mind, it is that good. You really have to wonder what is involved in a “Super-Kiss.”
