For Jasmine Rose, there’s always time for a hearty meal. “We try to eat at least one meal together each day,” she says.
“While we eat, we really talk with each other. It’s a value I learned from my grandmothers, Elsie and Hattie, and something I continue teaching my family today,” she adds.
Jasmine plans her menus around lots of good vegetables and wholesome ingredients. “My kids were raised picking berries on farms, and I’ve always tried to cook with fresh, seasonal foods because they taste so good—even in the dead of winter. Root vegetables, squash, mushrooms and home-dried herbs are so satisfying, we don’t mind waiting for spring as much.”
Jasmine has a large extended family with many nephews and nieces, and her vegetable side dishes prove quite popular at family gatherings. “I have a big family to celebrate with,” Jasmine writes. “Our get-togethers are always eclectic, thanks to the dozens of people gathered around the table.”
No matter who sits at Jasmine’s table, she says there’s lots of fun and plenty of belly laughs to go around. “I truly believe that food and sharing meals can bring people together,” she adds. “Come to the table with kindness, and there will be abundance for all.”
“We should remember this all year long, not just during holidays or special celebrations,” she says. “Food makes people feel good. After all, the world needs more hugs—and bowls brimming with tasty veggies!”
