The wait was over and Tara’s faith turned out to be true. The Gods were kind as Mahesh and I got admission in The Harbour Maritime Academy. It was the one that Vikram dada had recommended; the best college for Merchant Navy studies in the city.
Soon, we moved into the college hostel.
After spending days in a lavish 2 BHK apartment of Hiranandani, the college hostel seemed like a ditch. But I could not help it; it was mandatory.
Mahesh and I were roommates, and soon, all the fun turned into hectic schedules. The endless—and nonsense—talks that we had all day were now confined to late night chats and quick interim breaks. Honestly, I never knew college could be so hard.
Yet, life seemed perfect. I knew I wanted nothing more from life. I had a bright career ahead. My parents were happy with how things were taking shape and they were incredibly proud. To top it all, I had the love of my life—Tara—with me. What else could one ask for?
At that time, however, I had no idea that all that happiness and all those dreams were about to shatter. I had no idea that it was the end of my perfectly fine, sober life and the beginning of an era that was full of filth and madness.
